As a hand dyer and a dye painter many of my quilts have figurative elements as well as abstractions.  I live in Madison, Wisconsin and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and maintain full studios for dyeing and sewing in each spot.  I am the most represented artist in the University of Wisconsin Hospital collection having sold them over 130 quilts which are framed (mostly) and are on the walls.  I have taught at Quilt Surface Design Symposium and been a guest instructor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  I love playing with color, shape and form. Currently I am  enchanted with solids and solid like hand dyes. here is a picture of 3 of my velveteen quilts installed in the recently completed UW clinic in Belleville, WI.  See more of my work at www.cheriestcyr.net

I had my 15 minutes of fame in 1999 when I was commissioned to make 3 quilts for Corona beer that were used on billboards and printed advertisements.  It was funny how it happened. The art director for  the ad agency that had the account  took my card at an art fair in Evanston IL. He didn't even talk to me, just called me a month later with a big big offer.  It was a very intense gig: short deadline that got shorter, big vision and tiny amount of direction.  Still I would take another again in a minute, it was so fantastic to drive to QSDS and see my art  on billboards as I drove through Chicago and Indianapolis!
